About Us
Infertility, miscarriage, infant loss ... these words carry with them the weight of anguish, despair and isolation. Many people have either undergone these experiences or know someone who has, yet these trials can be seldom discussed or addressed in churches. Why? Perhaps it is the fear of upsetting others, of bringing to the surface painful issues or memories that perhaps may have been long buried, or it may be the fear of not saying the ‘right’ thing, of creating an unavoidable chasm between friends. Whatever the reasons, many who have experienced or are under going the pain of infertility or the anguish of the loss of a precious baby, or both, can feel shut off from and misunderstood by their church family. They watch on the sidelines as family after family announces a pregnancy and welcomes a new baby, as children file off to Sunday School and as mothers receive flowers on Mothers’ Day, while they wonder if they will ever have the family they so desperately crave or if the searing loss of their child will ever become less painful.
We have been there and this is why Hope Deferred, a conference for those who have undergone or are experiencing infertility, miscarriage or infant loss, was first organised. The main aims of the conference are to encourage people to trust God in the midst of infertility and infant loss, reassure people that they are not alone in their struggles and to provide a safe and loving environment where issues can be discussed and prayed for. Those who have not personally undergone these experiences but know someone who has are also very welcome to attend the conference, as are ministers and pastors.
Hope Deferred is a non-denominational organisation, run by a team of evangelical Christians who have personal and professional experience of infant loss, miscarriage, infertility, fertility treatment and adoption.
